Katerina Apale, Central Coast based artist.
With a Latvian/European background, I studied abroad in Germany and Norway, and got my Master degree in art, at the Latvian Academy of Arts. I then went on to becoming a lecturer at the Latvian Academy, where I was a student once myself. Parallel to this, I studied in a university, achieving the second highest degree in pedagogy, which helped me become a professional teacher. This allowed me to open up my professional studio with art lessons, back in the day.

After migrating to Australia, I was seriously committed to painting and experimenting with different styles, being inspired by the local flora and fauna. While creating, I focus on the interrelation of colours and shades, as the most important instrument of expression; I often simplify forms down, heading in the direction of abstract art, so the colours show more, and have a bigger impact on the viewer.
